Safe driver behaviour

Plan a safe way home

A key element when planning a summer night out is knowing how you are getting home.

If you intend to drink alcohol; don’t drive. There are a range of alternative transport options you can use.

In the lead up to a public event, be aware of road closures and expected traffic delays. To get all of the latest traffic information in real-time, follow the ACT Policing twitter account ACTPol_Traffic.

There are several Taxi services in the ACT to assist you getting to and from events safely. Phone ahead to book or know where your nearest Taxi rank is located.

The ride sharing services UBER is also available in Canberra.

Designated drivers and car pooling

Assign a designated driver, car pool with friends or get a lift from a relative when heading out for an event or night on the town.

Action Buses

Action buses will be increasing its services over the Christmas and New Year’s period and have this year partnered with UBER.

A new Night Rider Rapid service will be running which provides the opportunity to connect between major town centres, with extended late night Rapid services running every 20 minutes until 2.00 am.

After you have caught the Night Rider back to your  major bus station, Transport Canberra are offering a  $10 UBER discount to then catch UBER home.

Visit the Transport Canberra website for more information.

Extra Police will be on the roads this summer. Don’t risk a fine or worse.
