$500 000 reward posted in Frank Campbell murder investigation
Release Date: Friday, September 07 2012, 01:01 PM
The ACT government has approved a $500 000 reward for information leading to the arrest and successful prosecution of Frank Campbell’s killer.
Canberra cab driver Frank Campbell was discovered murdered in his unit in Wilkins Street, Mawson around 3am May 2, 2005. The post mortem revealed he had been killed as a result of blunt force trauma to the head.
Frank had been drinking with his flatmate at the Mawson Club during the evening on Sunday May 1, 2005. Frank left the club about 9.43pm and returned home to his unit.
His flatmate last saw him alive at their home around 11.30pm.
Detective Senior Constable David Crowe said police are hoping the release of the CCTV footage of Frank leaving the Mawson Club on the night of his murder will help jog people’s memories.
“Frank was a well-known taxi driver who regularly socialised at his local clubs and we hope by releasing this footage it will help people think back to that time,” Detective Senior Constable David Crowe said.
Taken from the house at the time of Frank’s murder were items of clothing including a long-sleeved dark-checked shirt, a pair of blue Levi jeans (size 87 – 97), a pair of dark-coloured workboots, possibly steel-capped (size 8 – 9) and a small sum of cash. Police want to recover this stolen clothing, which may be a vital clue to the murder.
“We know there are people out there who can help us solve this crime and we urge anyone with information on Frank’s murder or the items stolen from the house to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000,” Detective Senior Constable Crowe said.
“I will personally be taking Crime Stopper calls this weekend regarding this matter, and would be happy to speak to anyone who may be able to help.”
Information can be provided to Crime Stoppers anonymously.
An appropriate indemnity from prosecution will be considered for any accomplice who first gives information.
