ACT Policing to reveal its Canberra Show display
Release Date: Thursday, February 23 2012, 03:46 PM
A confronting crash scene and interactive displays will be two of the key features in ACT Policing’s ActewAGL Royal Canberra Show display this weekend (February 24 to 26).
Visitors to the ACT Policing display in the Budawang Pavilion will have the chance to speak directly with officers and find out what’s happening in their neighbourhood.
With the lowest road toll recorded in the ACT in more than 50 years (in 2011), ACT Policing will continue its campaign on road safety with a re-enactment of a real crash scene from 2008, illustrating the harsh reality of a fatal collision.
Willing participants will also experience firsthand the dangers of drink driving by testing their ability to manoeuvre a remote control car while wearing ‘drunk goggles’. The challenge posed will be: “If you can’t operate a remote control car under the influence, how are you going to drive home?”
Parents and children alike will have the chance to learn about staying safe online through ThinkUKnow — the Australian Federal Police’s online education program. Constable Kenny Koala’s ‘Kid’s Corner’ will also provide children with an opportunity to learn about personal safety and make their own badges.
Police vehicles will again be on display.
The ACT Policing display at the ActewAGL Royal Canberra Show at Exhibition Park will be open to members of the public from 8.30am to 10pm on Friday and Saturday, and 8.30am to 6pm on Sunday.
