Project Safe Plate

Project Safe Plate is an initiative aimed at decreasing the number of vehicle registration plate thefts and subsequent follow up offences in the region.

Project Safe Plate forms part of the broader ACT Policing Property Crime Reduction Strategy. ACT Policing has set a target of reducing motor vehicle theft by 20% and burglaries by 10% by the end of 2015.

All stations across the ACT will hold a Project Safe Plate throughout the year, and Canberra motorists are encouraged to have their vehicle plates fitted, for free, with tamper-proof screws.

Stolen number plates are often used to commit crimes such as petrol drive-offs and burglaries. By reducing the opportunity for criminals to source one of their tools, ACT Policing aims to reduce many types of crime.

Last year, 1227 number plates were stolen in the ACT.

If your registration plates are stolen, report it to ACT Policing on 131 444.
