ACT crime statistics

Each month ACT Policing issues crime statistics illustrating the offences reported or becoming known in patrol regions and ‘sectors’ across the ACT.

The idea is to provide the community with a clear understanding of crime in their area.

The easy-to-use interactive maps introduce users to the patrol zones and the ‘sectors’ within them. While all police officers are responsible for patrolling their zones, each uniform patrol team has been allocated a ‘sector’ in which they have been tasked with engaging the community through ACT Policing’s Suburban Policing Strategy. These ‘sectors’ take in several suburbs.

The maps breakdown and present statistics of the offences reported or becoming known across the entire ACT and in each ‘sector’. The town centres have also been highlighted to give the community a better idea of policing in the shopping and restaurant districts.

The selected offences highlighted in the statistics include: assault, sexual offences, robbery, burglary, motor vehicle theft, other theft and property damage. It should be noted the numbers may fluctuate as new complainants come forward or when complaints are withdrawn.

It should also be noted that the individual geographical areas will not sum to the ACT totals due to the exclusion of rural sectors and other regions.

The publication of crime statistics is the result of a Memorandum of Understanding between the ACT Government and ACT Policing.
